NHL Rumors: Flyers Interested In Canadiens Defenseman
According to David Pagnotta, the Philadelphia Flyers have called the Montreal Canadiens about Jeff Petry.
Although the Flyers have a 15-26-10 record and are completely out of the playoff picture, a player like Petry could make sense for them. Why is that? Because the 34-year-old has three more years left on his contract after this one, he would be more than a rental.
A move for Petry would show that the Flyers are leaning more toward retooling their roster rather than completely rebuilding. If he is able to find his previous form from here, he would be a very solid addition to their top pair. Keep in mind, he did have four straight 40-point campaigns before this one.
Like the majority of Montreal's current roster, Petry has struggled this season. In 44 games, he has three goals, eight assists, and a minus-10 rating. Yet, it also is important to note that he has been heating up lately. Over his last four games, he has scored two goals and added three assists. Perhaps he is finally breaking his long cold streak.
For a deal with the Flyers to go down, they would have to not be on Petry's no-trade list. It will be interesting to see if he ends up in Philadelphia.
