NHL Rumors: Flyers Shopping Veteran Center

According to Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now, the Philadelphia Flyers are aiming to trade Derick Brassard before the deadline passes.

With the Flyers completely out of the playoff picture, it makes sense for them to move Brassard. He signed his one-year deal with them last summer and will be an unrestricted free agent again. Furthermore, he is 34 years old, so he obviously isn't expected to be a part of their rebuild. Although there should be a trade market there for the veteran, he has dealt with a lot of injury trouble this year. Thus, he will need to stay healthy for a deal to go down.

When Brassard has been able to play, he's been a very solid addition for the Flyers. In 21 games thus far, he has four goals, seven assists, and a plus-6 rating. Yet, he's played just four games since December - with missing almost a month between each of them. During that stretch, he also has been held off the scoresheet in each of them.

If Brassard can remain healthy, he could be a very solid depth forward for a contender. He produces like a third-line center and also has a very affordable $825,000 cap hit. Let's see if he ends up joining the 10th team of his career by the deadline.
