NHL Rumors: Hurricanes Interested In Flyers Defenseman
The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the teams interested in Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Justin Braun, according to Pierre LeBrun.
LeBrun first noted that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the sweepstakes, but now we at least know one other team in them as well. He also stated, however, that Braun isn't Carolina's primary trade target. This isn't too surprising to hear, as they also have been linked to bigger names like Jakob Chychrun, John Klingberg, and Ben Chiarot. If they strike out on all three of those players, perhaps they will pursue Braun heavily.
The Hurricanes are in win-now mode, so it makes sense that they are looking to make a big splash this deadline season. Ideally, they hope to add a top-four defenseman at least, but Braun could be a sweet addition to their bottom pair. This is especially true when remembering that both Ian Cole and Ethan Bear have been healthy scratched at times this campaign.
Braun is the kind of rental that playoff teams love to have, as he is a very stable defensive defenseman and has a lot of overall experience. We will have to keep a close eye on this development as we near closer to the deadline.
