The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the many teams interested in Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot, according to Elliotte Friedman.

The Hurricanes are viewed as one of the Stanley Cup favorites this season, so it isn't surprising to hear that they want to acquire a player like Chiarot. He is a rugged defensive defenseman who has had past success during the playoffs. With that, he could be an excellent addition to either their second or third pair.
The Canadiens just traded away one of their core members, as Tyler Toffoli was sent off to the Calgary Flames. With this move, it is apparent that general manager Kent Hughes is ready to strike deals, and Chiarot could very well be next. When seeing as how there are so many teams interested in him and he has an expiring contract, it wouldn't hurt to complete a trade shortly.
The Hurricanes are already known for having a very strong defensive group, but it would be even better if Chiarot was added to it. Time will tell if they will win the sweepstakes, but it's apparent that they are very much linked to him, too.
