NHL Rumors: Islanders Defenseman Drawing Trade Offers

New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield could be traded before the deadline passes, according to Frank Seravalli

At this point of the season, the Islanders have a 17-19-6 record and are sixth in the Metropolitan Division. They trail the Boston Bruins by 17 points for the second Wild Card spot but have four games in hand. Yet, after winning just four out of their last 10 games, the Islanders are making it very hard for themselves to get back into the playoff picture. Thus, this could open the door to them being sellers, and Mayfield is a potential trade target from them.

Mayfield's name has come up in the rumor mill since last summer, but a trade was never finalized. When it comes to this season, this could remain the same, too. Although the Islanders are listening to offers, he is still locked up under contract for next season. However, if New York wants to shake up their roster, which they should given how disappointing this campaign has been, he could be a player who gets moved.

In 42 games this season, Mayfield has two goals, 11 assists, and a minus-3 rating. Overall, he's a decent bottom-pair defenseman who could be a solid addition for a playoff team looking to strengthen up their blueline.
