NHL Rumors: Kings Unlikely To Trade Longtime Forward

According to Elliotte Friedman, it's very unlikely that Dustin Brown will be traded by the Los Angeles Kings this season.

Brown is in the final year of his contract, so he technically could be an interesting rental candidate for a playoff team. However, at this juncture of the campaign, Los Angeles has a real shot of making them. They currently are second in the Pacific Division with a 24-16-7 record. Although the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers have games in hand on them, there's no full-on guarantee that they will catch them.

Even at 37 years old, Brown is a solid third-liner winger to have. In 44 games this season, he has six goals to go along with 14 assists. Although he may be producing a bit less than he did during his prime years, he is still effective. It also doesn't hurt that he plays a physical game, too.

Alas, if Friedman's words are true, we shouldn't see Brown traded this deadline season. Ultimately, it makes sense for him to finish his career with the Kings - whether he retires after this season or later down the road.
