NHL Rumors: Kraken Forward Gaining Trade Interest

According to Elliotte Friedman, Jared McCann is another player from the Seattle Kraken who we could see dealt before the trade deadline passes.

At this point of the season, Seattle sports a 16-33-5 record and are destined to be sellers from here. McCann's contract expires at the end of the season, and he will be a restricted free agent. Although he will still be under team control, he is also just one year away from being eligible for unrestricted free agency. Therefore, there's a real possibility that the Kraken will elect to move him if he isn't open to a multi-year extension.

McCann is also having himself a year to remember. In 48 games, he has set a new career-high with 21 goals and also has 12 helpers. This kind of production is also on a weak Seattle team, so the potential for him to produce more elsewhere is certainly there. With all of this, there understandably are teams who would love to have the 25-year-old on their roster.

As the season continues, it will be interesting to see what the Kraken decide to do with him. Although it's apparent that they would love to sign the versatile forward to a long-term extension, it isn't a guarantee that he'd be open to it given how poorly their first season has gone. Time will tell what happens, but don't be surprised if Seattle decides to maximize his trade value and move him shortly.
