NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators Receiving Multiple Trade Calls

The Ottawa Senators have become one of the busier teams in the league and that has everything to do with what's going on off the ice. General manager Pierre Dorion's phone has been ringing off the hook as the team has a number of pending free agents generating trade interest from other teams.

According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, multiple teams have checked in with Dorion over all-star weekend as the Senators are way out of playoff position and are going to be selling. LeBrun had this to say on the matter on Monday:

Teams around the league, I'm told, over the last three or four days, have made Ottawa a popular target for phone calls. And I'm told that the Senators were a popular team to reach out to as far as checking out a team that is gonna be a seller.

From the group of Senators who have become trade candidates this season the most interest seems to be in forwards Nick Paul and Chris Tierney, along with netminder Anton Forsberg. Paul has been linked to multiple teams including the Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. Meanwhile Tierney seems to be a target of the Minnesota Wild and Forsberg on the other hand is drawing interest from the likes of the Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers.

Ottawa also has Tyler Ennis, Zach Sanford and Josh Brown who are all pending unrestricted free agents who will also be discussed before the March 21 trade deadline. After a busy offseason where management and ownership felt playoffs were within reach, it turns out that's not the case at all. The phones been ringing off the hook and it won't be long before a trade is announced which should kick-start a busy few weeks for Dorion and the Sens.
