NHL Rumors: Sabres To Trade Winger
According to Frank Seravalli, Buffalo Sabres forward Victor Olofsson is a player we could see traded by this year's deadline.
Olofsson is in the final season of his current contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer. However, he is inching closer to UFA status, so the Sabres could look to move him if he doesn't show any interest in signing a long-term extension. Given the team's current state, it seems possible that this could be the case.
There would likely be plenty of teams who would express interest in Olofsson. In 37 games this season, he has five goals to go along with 16 helpers. Truthfully, it's been a bit of a down year for him offensively, but he still would work as a potential middle-six forward on a contending team. Furthermore, he offers decent versatility, as he can play both left wing and right wing.
The potential for him to produce more frequently is there, too. During his rookie season just two years, he scored 20 goals and had 22 assists in just 54 games. It will be interesting to see if he can back to similar numbers, especially if he ends up being traded in the near future.
Alas, Olofsson's another name to pay attention to this deadline season.
