NHL Rumors: Sharks Interested In Bruins Forward
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the San Jose Sharks have entered the Jake DeBrusk sweepstakes.
Just in case you missed it, DeBrusk requested a trade from the Boston Bruins earlier this season. The 25-year-old wants the opportunity to receive more consistent playing time - which is something that he hasn't had with the Bruins. Yet, although it's been multiple months since his request, they still haven't moved him.
The Sharks could be a good destination for DeBrusk. When looking at their current forward depth, it's clear that he would have a good chance of making their top six. With that, there's always the possibility that he could see his scoring numbers get back to where they used to be.
In 45 games this season, DeBrusk has nine goals, eight assists, and a minus-6 rating. Overall, it's been another slow year for him offensively. However, a change of scenery could truly be the spark he needs to get back on track.
The Bruins want a player of equal value or more in any DeBrusk trade. Perhaps if San Jose is unable to come to terms on an extension for Tomas Hertl by the deadline, the Bruins could use DeBrusk as a piece in a potential swap. They would need to add more than just him in a hypothetical trade, of course.
