NHL Rumors: Stars Want To Re-Sign Top Forward
The Dallas Stars are hoping to sign Joe Pavelski to a contract extension, according to Matthew DeFranks of the Dallas Morning News.
It is easy to understand why the Stars are hoping to keep Pavelski around. The 37-year-old isn't showing a single sign of regression and is on pace to have the best season of his long career. In 48 games thus far, he has 21 goals, 31 assists, and a plus-15 rating.
That kind of production certainly has earned him the right to another contract, but it will be interesting to see how Dallas handles this. He is getting up there in age, so there could be some risk in signing him to a multi-year contract. However, that also could be what the Wisconsin native is seeking.
Although the Stars' playoff hopes are questionable and his contract expiring, it seems that Pavelski may not be available via trade. However, if they are unable to reach an agreement with him by the time the trade deadline comes around, this fact could begin to change.
We will have to keep our eyes open for a Pavelski contract extension. If Dallas has their way, they will get it done.
