NHL Rumors: Teams Interested In Devils Forward
According to Elliotte Friedman, teams are calling the New Jersey Devils about Pavel Zacha.
It has been reported that the Devils are looking to make "hockey trades" this deadline season. Thus, rather than just sell, they are aiming to make trades that could help improve their roster in the short term. With the team locking up fellow centers Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier to long-term deals, it does create the question of whether they should keep Zacha around.
Zacha was selected with the sixth overall pick of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Although it has taken him some time to develop, he has improved these last couple of seasons. After having a 35-point campaign in 50 games last season, he has 12 goals and 22 points in 45 games this season. His production has gone down a little, but he is still capable of being a scoring threat.
Zacha is in the final year of his contract and will be a restricted free agent over the summer. With teams expressing interest in the 24-year-old, it will be interesting to see what the Devils decide to do with him. He isn't the only longtime Devil in the rumor mill right now, as Damon Severson also is. After the way this season has gone for the team, don't be surprised to see them shake up their core, as Fitzgerald has hinted at.
