Oilers Losing Two Key Players To Injuries
When it rains it pours and the Edmonton Oilers have been drowning in bad news as of late. The Oilers will be without two key players for at least the next couple of weeks, thanks to a pair of injuries suffered against the Chicago Blackhawks during last night's game.
First, Duncan Keith went hard into the boards after colliding skates with Blackhawks forward Sam Lafferty as he was streaking towards the goal. Keith was momentarily knocked unconscious during the play and he did not return for the rest of the game. The 38-year-old defenseman is expected to miss 2-4 weeks as he is in the NHL's concussion protocol and he also has some soreness in his upper body, most likely in his back and/or tailbone based on how he slid into the boards.
Secondly, Zach Kassian will also be sidelined after he took a puck to the face in the second period of last night's game and fractured his jaw. The 31-year-old winger is expected to be for at least one month, and the Oilers will have a hard time replacing his size and grit in their lineup.
Some injury updates from Holland: Kassian sustained a fractured jaw last night & will be out 4-8 weeks. Duncan Keith is in concussion protocol & has some upper-body soreness that could keep him out 2-4 weeks.
