Penguins Defenseman To Miss Time
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Mike Matheson will be out week-to-week due to an undisclosed injury.
Matheson is somebody who Pittsburgh will miss when he is out. In 50 games this season, he has seven goals, 14 assists, and a plus-5 rating. Overall, he's been producing fairly well on the backend and has been reliable defensively in the process.
At this point of the season, the Penguins have a 31-14-8 record and are third in the Metropolitan Division. Although they have had another very strong season, things have cooled off a bit lately. Over their last 10 games, they have won only four times. With that, they are on a three-game losing streak. Thus, this is not a good time for them to lose one of their important defensemen.
With Matheson out for a while, the Penguins have called up Pierre-Olivier Joseph. In four games this season with the NHL club, he has zero points and a minus-2 rating.
