Predators Sign Defenseman To Extension

The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Mark Borowiecki to a one-year, $900,000 contract extension.

Borowiecki has been a very solid bottom-pair defenseman for the Predators since he arrived last season. He brings a very high degree of physicality, which makes it understandably more difficult to play against Nashville. This is something that shouldn't be underestimated and exactly why the Predators wanted to keep him around longer.

In 40 games so far this season, Borowiecki has two assists, 103 penalty minutes, 136 hits, and a plus-2 rating. Although the 32-year-old hasn't been very active offensively, he has been reliable defensively and is still as physical as ever. Now, the Predators will have him in their lineup for another season, and that is great news for them. 

This is the second contract extension that the Predators have handed out this season, as Mattias Ekholm signed a four-year one earlier this season. Now, they have to focus their efforts on signing Filip Forsberg to one, too. The Predators look excellent this season, so they should aim to keep as many players from their current roster around for the future.
