Sabres Forward Done For Season

Buffalo Sabres forward Drake Caggiula has had fusion surgery for a herniated disk and will be out for the rest of this season. 

Caggiula's estimated recovery time is six to eight months, so this could impact him even when the next season starts. The 27-year-old is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, too, so it will be interesting to see if an NHL team will sign him given the severity of his injury.

In 18 games this season, Caggiula had two goals, three assists, and a minus-4 rating. His last game occurred on November 22nd against the Columbus Blue Jackets, so he has already missed multiple months at this point. Before getting injured, it seemed that he was on pace to have another decent year in the bottom six. However, now it's officially over, and it's hard not to feel bad for him.

If Caggiula was healthy, he likely would have been a rental candidate for the Sabres, too. Interest could have been there around the league, but now we will never truly know.
