Sharks Defenseman Out Long Term

San Jose Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro had surgery to repair a lower left fibula fracture. He will be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks.

This is brutal news for the Sharks. Ferraro has emerged as an important part of their blueline. Furthermore, they are aiming to get back into the playoff picture. At this time, they have a 23-23-6 record and trail the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers by nine points for the final Wild Card spot. Losing Ferraro will not help their chances of striking a huge comeback.

Ferraro sustained his injury after receiving contact from Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall. From here, the 23-year-old would awkwardly fall into the boards and need help to get off the ice. Now, we know the specific details of his injury, and it's very unfortunate.

In 48 games this season, Ferraro has two goals, nine assists, and a minus-7 rating. Now, the Sharks will be without both him and Erik Karlsson for a notable amount of time.
