Tuukka Rask Officially Announces Retirement

Tuukka Rask has officially announced his retirement from the NHL.

It was reported yesterday by Fluto Shinzawa that it was very likely that Rask was going to. The 34-year-old had been out of the lineup since late January due to lingering issues with his hip. This was significant, as the veteran goalie of course just had surgery on it last offseason. Yet, even though he worked extremely hard to make a comeback, it just was too hard for him to perform at his previous level.

Rask struggled when he returned to action this season, but that is not what he will be remembered for. The Finnish netminder finished his career with the most wins in franchise history with 308. With that, he also sported a marvelous 2.28 goals-against average, and a .921 save percentage.

Rask also won himself a nice chunk of awards during his time with the team, too. In 2014, he won the Vezina Trophy and made the NHL First All-Star team. He played in the All-Star Game in 2017 and 2020, and also went on to win the William M. Jennings trophy in 2020, too. He also was a part of their 2011 Stanley Cup-winning team but as their backup.

Now without the Rask, the Bruins will once again be running a Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman tandem for the remainder of the season.

Nevertheless, it was a spectacular career for Rask. Next stop for him: The Hockey Hall of Fame?
