Veteran Forward Earns NHL Contract With Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have placed Brad Malone on waivers. However, this certainly isn't bad news for the veteran forward, as he was also signed to a one-year, two-way NHL contract.

Malone had been under an AHL contract with the team's affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. It had been reported previously that the Oilers wanted to sign him to an NHL deal, but it did not come to fruition until now.

This contract doesn't automatically mean that Malone will receive a call-up in the future, but it does open the door to one eventually. In 26 games with the Condors this season as their captain, he has seven goals, 19 assists, and 35 penalty minutes. He certainly has been producing well at the AHL level, so it's fair to say that he has earned this nice little deal from the organization.

Malone last played at the NHL level during the 2018-19 campaign with the Oilers, so it will be a big accomplishment if he gets another chance three seasons later. In 199 career NHL games between the Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Oilers, he has 13 goals, 17 assists, and 30 points. It will be interesting to see if he will build on those numbers from here.
