Video: Luke Schenn and Ross Johnston Drop The Gloves
The New York Islanders and Vancouver Canucks are most likely going to miss out on the playoffs this season, as both teams are at least 6 games out of a playoff spot and the two middling teams were looking to take their frustrations out on each other in a midseason matchup on Wednesday night in Vancouver. The Islanders won the game 6-3 thanks largely in part to five unanswered first-period goals from Zach Parise, Brock Nelson, Anders Lee, Casey Cizikas, and Mathew Barzal. Canucks starting goaltender Jaroslav Halak was pulled after the fifth goal but the damage had been done, and the lead was ended up being insurmountable despite the Canucks best efforts.
Before the game got out of hand, Canucks defenseman Luke Schenn and Islanders forward Ross Johnston dropped the gloves after Johnston had some words with J.T. Miller on the shift prior. The two had a pretty good back and forth scrap with Schenn landing lefts while Johnston fired back with rights before Schenn eventually took the knee and ate a couple extra shots for his trouble:
The Canucks will be in action this Saturday against the red-hot Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Islanders will be in Edmonton Friday night for a matchup with the new-look Oilers.
