Video: Senators' Matt Murray Hurt After Ugly Collision
Ottawa Senators netminder Matt Murray left Tuesday night's game against the St Louis Blues after an ugly collision in the third period.
Murray was having a strong game making 27 saves before his departure, which came on the heels of the Blue fourth goal and having Blues pest Oskar Sundqvist fall on top of him after the goal. Brutal site for Murray and the Senators as the goaltender has been playing stellar of late and looked to be hitting the reset button on his tenure in Ottawa. It also likely brought back memories of a knee to the head he took from New York Rangers Chris Kreider earlier in the season.
The team gave no update on Murray's status after the game, however there is hope that it will be nothing too serious that will keep the 27-year-old on the shelve for a significant amount of time.
The Blues went on to win the game 5-2 and Senators head coach DJ Smith was happy to see a recent Stanley Cup champion up close and personal and hopes his team can learn from them:
The way they play in the O-zone, they don't throw pucks away, they hold on, they grind you. I mean, we do have lots of guys out, but that's what we want to be, that's what you want to look for. Two years ago, they win the Stanley Cup playing that exact style and that's what you want to do
