Anaheim Ducks Sign Prospect
The Anaheim Ducks have signed Josh Lopina to an entry-level contract.
Lopina was selected by Anaheim with the 98th overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Although his contract doesn't kick in until the start of next season, he will be getting his first taste of professional hockey action this campaign. This is because the 21-year-old will be joining the San Diego Gulls on a professional tryout contract.
With the UMass Amherst this season, the young center had 12 goals and 15 assists in 27 games. This was immediately after he had a 23-point campaign in 29 games during his first year with the club. Needless to say, he showed signs of improvement this time around. Now he will be aiming to progress his game with the Ducks organization.
It will be intriguing to see if Lopina will be able to make the NHL team as soon as next season. However, it also wouldn't be a bad thing for him to spend some time with the Gulls first.
