Blue Jackets Goaltender Done For The Year
The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that Joonas Korpisalo will be out for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old goaltender is set to have hip surgery.
For the entirety of this season, Korpisalo was in the rumor mill. Yet, once trade deadline day came around, the Finnish netminder surprisingly stayed put. With the Blue Jackets out of the playoff race and him having an expiring contract, it seemed like a no-brainer that he would be dealt. Yet, this development has now shown us why he was not.
It was a very hard year for Korpisalo this season. In 22 appearances, he had a 7-11-0 record, 4.15 GAA, and .877 SV%. After putting up numbers like that, he may have to settle for a one-year deal as a free agent this summer. Unfortunately for him, he will not have the chance to try to end the high on a strong note.
Nevertheless, here's to hoping Korpisalo has a speedy recovery, and that this injury doesn't impact his chances of landing a new deal this offseason.
