Blues Defenseman Out Long Term
St. Louis Blues defenseman Scott Perunovich will be out for at least the next eight weeks, as he is set to have surgery on his left wrist.
Perunovich has had a ton of injury trouble since beginning his tenure with the Blues organization. He already missed the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign due to a shoulder injury, so the 23-year-old hasn't had much professional hockey experience - both in the NHL and AHL.
In 19 games this season with the Blues, Perunovich has six assists. He has been showing signs of being a legitimate NHL defenseman, but he hasn't had the chance to show that long enough due to his injury trouble. With the Springfield Thunderbirds, he has been excellent this season, as he has three goals to go along with 19 assists.
With Perunovich out until at least the postseason, the Blues' depth on the blueline is being hit. They already have been linked to several left-handed defensemen this deadline season. Perhaps this will lead them to push harder to land somebody like Jakob Chychrun or Ben Chiarot. Time will tell on that front.
