Canadiens Sign Top Prospect
The Montreal Canadiens have signed Joshua Roy to a three-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 season.
The Canadiens selected Roy with the 150th-overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Although he was a fifth-round pick, he has raised his value as prospect immensely this season alone. After recording 18 points in 20 games for the Sherbrooke Phoenix last season, he has exploded this campaign, as he 36 goals and 92 points in just 50 contests.
When it comes to next season, it will be interesting to see what the Canadiens opt to do with Roy. He is still only 18 years old, so they could elect to have him play another year in the QMJHL. Yet, with the team rebuilding, perhaps they also could give him a small look at the NHL level, too.
Nevertheless, if Roy can translate this offensive firepower to the NHL, Montreal could have themselves a future top-six forward on their hands. Time will tell on that front.
