Canucks And Senators Complete Trade
The Ottawa Senators have acquired Travis Hamonic from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2022 third-round pick.
It's a little surprising to see Hamonic heading to Ottawa. The Senators are certainly not in a place to be buyers, and the veteran defenseman is 31 years old. However, he does have another year left on his contract, so he will be more than a rental for the Senators. Furthermore, Vancouver is expected to shed some of their salary, and they have done just that by moving Hamonic's $3 million cap hit.
Hamonic will provide the Senators with a much-needed veteran on their blueline. He could fit in well in their top four but also could end up playing bottom-pair minutes, too. Either way, he isn't a bad veteran to have around.
In 24 games this season, Hamonic has three goals, four assists, and a plus-1 rating.
