Edmonton Oilers Sign Goaltender
The Edmonton Oilers have signed Ryan Fanti to a two-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 season.
Fanti just completed his third season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and it was his best one by far. In 37 games, he sported a wonderful 1.83 GAA and .929 save percentage. With these kinds of numbers, it makes sense that the Oilers decided to give the undrafted goalie a chance. Keep in mind, that is a major position of weakness for Edmonton right now.
If Fanti can carry over this kind of collegiate success to the NHL, he could be a very solid goaltender for the Oilers later down the road. Yet, it's important to note that he can not join the Oilers for any reason this season. Instead, he will be joining the Bakersfield Condors on a tryout contract for the remainder of this campaign.
Nevertheless, there's no harm in Edmonton giving Fanti a chance with this ELC. Let's see if the youngster can eventually blossom into an NHL goaltender.
