Hurricanes Sign Top Prospect
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Noel Gunler to a three-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 campaign.
Although Gunler's contract does not start until next season, he will be beginning his professional career in North America immediately. This is because he has also signed a tryout contract with the team's AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. He will be joining the club for the remainder of the regular season and also their playoff run.
Gunler was selected by the Hurricanes with the 42nd-overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Carolina should certainly be fortunate to have him, as he was originally expected to be a first-round pick. However, he managed to drop in the draft, and the Hurricanes were very wise to take advantage of that.
In 53 games this season with Brynas IF of the SHL, he had 13 goals and 10 assists. Overall, he had himself a solid season in Sweden, but he will now be taking his talents to the Hurricanes organization. It will be intriguing to see how the 20-year-old performs from here.
