Lightning Defenseman Placed On Waivers
The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed Andrej Sustr on waivers.
Sustr has primarily been an extra defenseman for the Lightning this season. In 15 games played, he has one goal and a minus-1 rating. Him getting back to the NHL has been a nice storyline to follow, however, as he hadn't since the 2018-19 season with the Anaheim Ducks.
Assuming Sustr clears waivers, he will once again be joining the Syracuse Crunch. In 25 games with the team this season, he has two goals, 10 assists, and 32 penalty minutes. He has worked well at the AHL level, so Syracuse is likely hoping that the 31-year-old clears and rejoins them. The Lightning also wouldn't mind if he stayed in their system, as he has provided them with serviceable depth.
Yet, there is always the chance that a team decides to claim Sustr for extra blueline depth. The 6-foot-7 defenseman comes with an affordable $750,000 cap hit, so that does help his chances.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Sustr from here. We will find out on Tuesday if he has a new home.
