Maple Leafs Place Goaltender On Waivers
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed Petr Mrazek on waivers.
It's been a very rough first season for Mrazek with the Leafs. In 17 appearances, he has a 10-6-0 record, 3.48 GAA, and .884 SV%. Needless to say, they expected far more from him when they signed him to a three-year, $11.4 million contract.
This decision will also give the Leafs more cap space heading into the deadline. With the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Boston Bruins all making big moves already, they are expected to follow suit. They have been linked to several big-name players, so it will be interesting to see what they do from here.
Mrazek's contract certainly lowers his chances of being claimed, but nothing is impossible. Just last season, he had a .920 SV% with the Carolina Hurricanes and played like a legitimate starter. Perhaps a team with plenty of cap space looking for an upgrade in goal could give him a shot.
Besides Mrazek, several other players have hit waivers today, too. They include the following players: Riley Nash (ARZ), Kyle Turris (EDM), Christian Jaros (NJD), Derrick Pouliot (VGK), Kyle Clifford (TOR), Harri Sateri (TOR).
