Maple Leafs Sign Prospect

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Nick Abruzzese to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Abruzzese was selected by the Maple Leafs with the 124th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The 22-year-old center just put together an excellent season as Harvard University's captain, as he had nine goals and 24 assists in 28 games. Over the course of his 59-game college career, he had 77 total points. With all of this, he has the potential to become a solid-point producer in the NHL.

Abruzzese also represented Team USA at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. In four games during the tournament, he scored one goal and added three assists.

With the Maple Leafs known for having limited cap space, it is good that they have successfully signed a prospect like Abruzzese. Even if the team feels that he isn't NHL-ready immediately, it seems rather possible that he could be very soon.

Nevertheless, congrats to Nick for landing his first NHL contract!
