Maple Leafs Trade Defenseman To Canucks
The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Travis Dermott to the Vancouver Canucks for a third-round pick.
Dermott's name has been in the rumor mill for several months, and now we finally have seen the young defenseman officially moved. Although the return may not impress too many fans, it's important to note that Toronto now has gained cap space from it. With the Mark Giordano trade soon to be finalized, they needed extra cap space.
In 43 games this season, Dermott has one goal, four assists, and a plus-4 rating. It hasn't been a particularly dominant campaign for the 25-year-old, but he will now be looking to build on it with the Canucks.
The Travis Hamonic trade from earlier now makes a lot more sense. The Canucks have now added both a cheaper and young defenseman in Dermott. Let's see how he does with the change of scenery from here.
