Minnesota Wild Sign Prospect
The Minnesota Wild have signed Sam Hentges to a two-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 campaign.
Hentges just completed his senior season with St. Cloud State University. With them, he scored 12 goals and added 10 assists in 20 contests. It was the best season of his collegiate career, and he has been awarded with this ELC from the Wild because of it. He also represented Team USA at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he had a goal in two games played.
The Wild selected Hentges with the 210th-overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. It's been a long road since then for the 22-year-old forward, but he will now have the opportunity to begin his professional career next season.
Hentges has the potential to be a solid prospect for the Wild. Although he will likely need to spend some time with their AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, he could blossom into a decent bottom-six forward later down the road. Overall, we will have to wait and see how well he develops from here.
