New Jersey Devils Sign Winger
The New Jersey Devils have signed Brian Halonen to a two-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 campaign.
Halonen went undrafted but has since made raised his value as a prospect rather significantly. As a result of this, the 23-year-old was getting attention from several teams around the league, but the Devils are the lucky club to have landed him.
Halonen just completed his senior season with Michigan Tech and performed excellently in the process. In 37 games on the year, the winger had 21 goals to go along with 23 assists. He also clearly played a physical game, too, as he put together 49 penalty minutes.
With the Devils having strong depth down the middle, it is good to see that they are aiming to improve on the wing, too. It will be interesting to see if he is able to make the NHL squad immediately. Yet, it also wouldn't be a bad thing for him to get some experience with their AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, first.
