NHL Rumors: 2 Calgary Flames Offseason Trade Candidates
The Calgary Flames are one of the elite teams in the western conference and appear to be set for a long playoff run. Management has never been shy to make a move to upgrade their roster and were successful pulling off multiple moves before the deadline to upgrade their forward group. While general manager Brad Treliving tried to pull off some more moves, his next deals will come at the draft. Let's take a look at two Flames likely on their way out at season's end:
Sean Monahan
From first-round pick and first-line center to the coach's dog house, Sean Monahan has been through it all in Calgary. The 27-year-old is signed through next season at $6.375 and is very likely getting moved in the summer. There were rumblings the team tried to move him before the trade deadline and had talks with the Boston Bruins but the trade chatter fell through. Monahan has been very inconsistent this season, recording only eight goals and 22 points in 63 games. For that price tag, not enough production. Look for the Chicago Blackhawks to have some interest in the offseason.

Juuso Valimaki
The former first-round pick is currently buried in the minors as the 23-year-old defenseman has been in tough to find minutes on the big club. Valimaki is 6-foot-2 and when he's using his skating to get himself out of trouble can be a dangerous player. He's signed through next season at $1.55 million and could find himself dangled at the draft and could very well be packaged with Monahan as a sweetener. He's appeared in eight NHL games this season, recording two points and has 14 points in 26 American Hockey League games. If Valimaki doesn't get moved in the summer and doesn't secure a spot in the Flames top-six defense next season, expect a trade request to be provided to management.
