NHL Rumors: 2 Maple Leafs Linked to Trade Discussions

The Toronto Maple Leafs have several irons in the fire as general manager Kyle Dubas is trying to upgrade his roster in hopes of getting out of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The team has some question marks throughout their lineup as they're certainly not a finished product and expectation is we see a couple of moves before the March 21 trade deadline. Talent coming in means talent going out, let's take a look at two Maple Leafs who have recently been rumored to be on the move:

Petr Mrazek

The Maple Leafs were Jack Campbell's team for most of the season and unfortunately 'Soup' has gone through a tough stretch. Head coach Sheldon Keefe has been playing Mrazek more of late, as he appeared in his first back-to-back games this week. While Campbell has struggled, he was an all-star this season and holds a record of 23-8-4 posting a 2.55 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Dubas just signed Mrazek last offseason to a three-year deal at $3.8 million so while some could see him as trade bait, others feel it's too early and a move wouldn't happen until the offseason as the team could use some more cap space this summer. Mrazek sits with a 9-5-0 record on the season, however, has won three of his last five starts. 

With the goaltending market being one to watch before the deadline, if some playoff contending teams swing and miss, they could turn their attention to the Maple Leafs and more specifically trying to acquire Mrazek. Teams linked to the 28-year-old netminder include the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers.

Timothy Liljegren

The Maple Leafs have been linked to some blockbuster moves including for the likes of J.T Miller from the Vancouver Canucks, Damon Severson from the New Jersey Devils and Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers and all three teams are rumored to be interested in receiving Timothy Liljegren in the package. The young blueliner was a former first-round pick who has played a career high 37 games this season. He's been a touch inconsistent of late and has been scratched at times, however at just 22 years old, the future is bright for the Swedish defenseman. While it's likely the team moves either Justin Holl or Travis Dermott before moving Liljegren, if they want to land a gamechanger before the trade deadline, he'll need to be included.
