NHL Rumors: 2 New York Rangers Offseason Trade Candidates
The New York Rangers have surprised many teams this season. The hockey club sits comfortably in a playoff position in the eastern conference and were busy before the trade deadline adding a couple of pieces up front which they hope will put them over the top. General manager Chris Drury won't be shy when it comes to making bold moves and expect some noise from Broadway this summer. Here's two Rangers who are offseason trade candidates:
Vitali Kravtsov
The Rangers tried to move the disgruntled prospect before the March 21 trade deadline but unfortunately for both sides it didn't work out. Vitali Kravtsov is still only 22 years old and was a first-round pick, 9th overall at the 2018 entry draft. Since then he's only appeared in 20 games for the blue shirts, recording two goals and four points. He's projected to be a top-six winger who can provide secondary scoring and at 6-foot-3 can play the game using his size and speed. A team to watch here...the Chicago Blackhawks. They have been heavily linked to a Patrick Kane trade to New York and if it transpires this upcoming summer, expect to see Kravtsov heading to the windy city.
Alexandar Georgiev
With the likes of Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox having their massive extensions kick in next season, the Rangers are going to look for ways to save money. Trading backup netminder Alexandar Georgiev is certainly one way. The 26-year-old is a pending restricted free agent who is making $2.42 million against the cap next season and could be looking for a raise in 2022. With Igor Shesterkin signed for under $6 million and for the next three seasons, the Rangers are set in goal and should look to cheaper alternatives. There will be no lack of interest in Georgiev as several teams will be looking to upgrade their crease in the offseason. Teams to watch include the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers or Buffalo Sabres.
