NHL Rumors: Blue Jackets Forward Finished in Columbus
It's trade deadline day in the NHL and one name you can expect to see moved before the afternoon deadline, Max Domi of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team has been engaged with several teams regarding the pending free agent and it appears a trade is coming on Monday.
Hockey insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff has Domi ranked 5th on his trade list heading into deadline day and had this to say about a potential deal:
It would be a surprise if Domi is not move before the deadline, as there’s no doubt the Blue Jackets are interested in find him a new home as an expiring contract. They gave up a lot (Josh Anderson) to get him two years ago. Properly slotted, Domi could be a fantastic addition for a playoff team in a middle-six role. Domi is three years removed from a 28-goal and 72-point campaign in Montreal. If there is a silver lining, it’s that Domi has remained relatively productive this season and he’s done it all at even strength with relatively limited ice time (13:29). He’s collected four points in his last four games leading up to March 21.
Domi is in the final year of his contract making $5.3 million against the cap. The Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators and Boston Bruins have all circled the waters, as to have the Toronto Maple Leafs. To this point the Blue Jackets haven't been too impressed with the offers and talks haven't escalated.
So far in 53 games the 27-year-old winger has recorded nine goals and 32 points. He's only appeared in 10 Stanley Cup playoff games to this point of his career and has yet to register a postseason goal. Perhaps some teams are reluctant to move a big package for someone without any playoff success. We'll see how things shape up before 3pm Monday.
Can we not overpay for Max Domi please? Thanks. #BruinsFam #NHLBruins
