NHL Rumors: Capitals Won't Trade 2 Top Prospects
According to Tarik El-Bashir, the Washington Capitals are not willing to trade Connor McMichael or Hendrix Lapierre in any trade before the deadline passes. With that, he noted that the team's 2022 first-round draft pick is off-limits, too.
The Capitals are heading into this trade deadline season with lots of questions regarding their current goaltenders. As a result of this, they have been linked to several goalies, but at the time of this writing, they have yet to pull the trigger on any move.
With Washington not necessarily being known for having the deepest prospect pool, it makes sense that they are refusing to move these youngsters. McMichael has seen a good amount of NHL time this season, as he has nine goals and eight assists in 58 games with Washington. Lapierre, on the other hand, appeared in six games at the beginning of the year and scored a goal. He has since been playing back in juniors.
Although the Capitals are desperate for upgrades to their roster, don't expect them to trade away their most important future assets. With this, it could be a bit of a quiet deadline for the team.
