NHL Rumors: Ducks And Flames Almost Completed Huge Trade
Although the Boston Bruins were the lucky winners of the Hampus Lindholm sweepstakes, the 28-year-old was almost dealt elsewhere. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames engaged in serious talks centering around Lindholm. With that, he noted that Sean Monahan would have been a piece that went the other way.
If the Flames landed Lindholm, that would have been absolutely massive for them. Keep in mind, they already acquired Tyler Toffoli, Calle Jarnkrok, and Ryan Carpenter before the deadline officially passed. Yet, they also did not add a single defenseman during the months leading up to it. Still, even with this being the case, they deserve praise for the additions they did make.
If this potential blockbuster went through, Monahan would have finally gotten the fresh start that he truly needs. At this juncture, the 27-year-old has fallen down on Calgary's depth chart immensely, as he is now playing fourth-line minutes. Even if he's having a down year, that placement in the lineup will not do him any favors at bouncing back. With Anaheim, he easily would have been in their top six, but now, that of course will not be coming to fruition.
Nevertheless, Lindholm is likely very happy that he became a Bruin. Keep in mind, he landed himself an eight-year extension with the club already.
