NHL Rumors: Islanders Shopping Veteran Defenseman
With the New York Islanders set to be sellers, another player who we likely will see moved is Andy Greene.
Greene is in the final year of his contract, so naturally, the 39-year-old is one of their rental candidates. Although his offensive numbers have dropped off over the years, there still should be interest in the veteran defenseman. He is a former NHL captain and has the ability to provide a playoff-bound team with more depth on the blueline.
In 44 games this season, Greene has two goals and seven assists. He hasn't been dominating the scoresheet, but he has been a solid bottom-pair guy for them because of his reliable defensive play. Therefore, the Islanders could get themselves a draft pick for him.
Greene has a $750,000 cap hit and does not possess a no-movement clause. As a result of this, the Islanders will have zero restrictions from moving him at the deadline. Let's see if the veteran finds a new home.
