NHL Rumors: Panthers Won't Trade Young Goalie
The Florida Panthers are expected to be big buyers at the trade deadline this season. However, if they complete a blockbuster before it passes, Spencer Knight will not be involved in the deal, according to Frank Seravalli.
When the Panthers selected Knight with the 13th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, they did so with the expectation of him being their goaltender of the future. Although teams have questioned the Panthers about his availability, it's clear that they still feel this way and have no desire to move the 20-year-old.
In 18 appearances this season with Florida, he has a 9-6-2 record, 3.22 goals-against average, and .898 SV%. He has had some rough moments with the team this campaign, so he has also spent time with their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, too. In 10 appearances with Charlotte, he has a 7-3-0 record, .917 save percentage, and 2.55 goals-against average.
Knight has a very bright future ahead of him, and it's apparent that Florida is not willing to trade him because of it. One young player who they are reportedly open to moving in a big trade is Owen Tippett, however.
