NHL Rumors: Semyon Varlamov Won't Accept Trade To This Team
According to James Nichols of The Fourth Period, Semyon Varlamov will not accept a trade to the Edmonton Oilers.
I'm told Varlamov won't waive his NTC for Edmonton. #isles https://t.co/wubDaWtBe4

There have been rumblings that the Oilers have approached the New York Islanders about Varlamov, but the veteran goalie has made it clear that he will not play there. He has every right to do this, as his contract carries a 16-team no-trade list.
With the Islanders struggling and Ilya Sorokin viewed as their long-term starting goaltender, Varlamov's name has been discussed frequently in the rumor mill. The 33-year-old has a $5 million cap hit until the completion of next season. Therefore, if he is acquired by another team, he would be more than a rental for them.
With the Oilers in desperate need of a new goaltender, it would have made sense for Varlamov to be their guy. However, it's clear after this development that this will not be coming to fruition. Edmonton will have to look for an answer to this major problem elsewhere.
