Oilers Place Young Forward On Waivers
The Edmonton Oilers have placed Tyler Benson on waivers.
Benson being on waivers will certainly grab the attention of teams around the league. The 24-year-old just recorded 36 points in 36 games with the Bakersfield Condors last season and is viewed as having a good amount of potential. Thus, it would be surprising to see one of the rebuilding teams pass on him.
However, Benson has struggled in his full season with the Oilers. In 29 games, he has one goal and one assist. His AHL scoring success has not translated over to the league's most competitive sport at this point in time. With the trade deadline in less than a week, perhaps this is an indicator that a move is on the way.
It seems more likely than not that Benson will get claimed. However, if he doesn't, he will report back to Bakersfield and will remain a depth forward for the Oilers from here.
