Panthers And Flyers Complete Blockbuster
The Florida Panthers have acquired Claude Giroux, Connor Bunnaman, German Rubtsov, and a 2024 fifth-round pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2024 first-round pick, 2023 third-round pick, and Owen Tippett.
The Panthers have been linked to Giroux for months now, so it isn't too surprising to see the longtime Flyers captain be dealt there. With Philadelphia completely out of playoff contention, they wanted to give Giroux a proper sendoff after he played his 1,000th game with the franchise. Now he will be joining the Panthers during their quest for the Stanley Cup. It's also now been reported that the star was only willing to waive his no-movement clause to join Florida.
The Flyers are getting a strong return, as they not only landed a first-round pick but also Owen Tippett. The 23-year-old was expected to be moved to the Flyers for this blockbuster and has been scratched in the AHL in preparation for it. The 2017 first-round pick is viewed as having top-six potential but has had trouble staying in Florida's lineup permanently over the years. In 94 career games with them, he has 14 goals and 33 points.
Bunnaman and Rubstov are just add-ons to the deal, as it's clear that the main names in it are Giroux and Tippett. The trading season is now officially going crazy, so expect to see many more big moves from here. Stay tuned for all updates.
