Pittsburgh Penguins Sign Defenseman
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed Colin Swoyer to a one-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 season.
Swoyer will get his first experience of professional hockey this campaign, however, as he is set to join the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on a tryout contract.
Swoyer just completed his senior season with Michigan Tech, and it's safe to say it was a strong one for the 23-year-old defenseman. In 36 games, he had five goals, 18 assists, and 23 points. Those are certainly are solid numbers from the point, but it's also important to note that they each are career-highs, too.
With the Penguins not being known for having the deepest of prospect pools, it is wise of them to take a chance on Swoyer. It will be intriguing to see if he will be able to make the NHL squad later down the road.
