Red Wings Place Defenseman On Waivers
The Detroit Red Wings have placed Danny Dekeyser on waivers.
The Red Wings just claimed Olli Juolevi off waivers from the Florida Panthers on Sunday. With this development, it seems that it took away Dekeyser's spot on the roster. Now, the 32-year-old will either get claimed by another NHL team or head to the Red Wings' AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Dekeyser, a Michigan native, has been a mainstay on Detroit's blueline for several seasons now. With that, he is one of their alternate captains this campaign. In 43 games on the year, he has six assists to go along with a minus-12 rating. It has been a quiet season for the veteran defenseman, so perhaps this is something we could have seen coming.
The chances of Dekeyser being claimed off waivers are immensely low. He carries a $5 million cap hit, and that is a lot of money for a defenseman who plays bottom-pair minutes at best. If he was making less money, there certainly could have been decent interest in him, however.
Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see what happens with the longtime Red Wing from here.
