Avalanche Sign Top College Free Agent

Ben Meyers was viewed as the number one undrafted NCAA free agent available. Naturally, there were plenty of teams interested in him, but we now know the winners of the sweepstakes, as the Colorado Avalanche have signed him to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Meyers just completed his third season with the University of Minnesota, and it was a strong one. In 34 games, he scored 17 goals and added 24 assists as team captain. The 5-foot-11 forward is known for his solid offensive ability, so it will be intriguing to see how well it translates over to the NHL with the Avalanche.

Meyers also represented Team USA at the Beijing Olympics. He left an impact during the tournament, too, as he had two goals and four points in four games.

It will be interesting to see how well Meyers performs with the Avalanche from here. The league's best team has landed themselves another excellent prospect.
