Eakins is currently in his third season with the rebuilding squad. In 201 games coached with them, he sports a 75-96-30 record. Although the team has struggled during his time with them, it is important to note that they have been major sellers since his arrival. Thus, GM Pat Verbeek clearly trusts Eakins to develop their youngsters from here.
This season has provided the Ducks with optimism, too. For a good chunk of it, they were in the playoff hunt. However, they have struggled as of late and now sport a 29-33-12 record. Although falling back down to Earth stings, it seems that they are at least heading in the right direction with their excellent cast of young players.
