Lehner had battled back from a major knee injury he sustained in Philadelphia on March 8. He gave it all he could but his body finally gave out.
This is possibly the worst news that the Golden Knights could have received. At this juncture, they are currently fighting for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, and now they are officially without their number-one goalie for the rest of the year.
Since early March, Lehner has been dealing with this specific knee injury and tried to push through it. However, the veteran is now forced to sit out due to its severity. His 2021-22 campaign ends with him sporting a 23-17-2 record, 2.83 GAA, and .907 SV%.
It will be interesting to see if the Golden Knights can catch the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference without Lehner. At this point, the Marc-Andre Fleury trade is looking even worse for Vegas.
